A weird case of "this page cannot be displayed" II

Similar to the very recent post of this problem but not quite the same. I am using IE and I cannot open up www.ebay.com or www.paypal.com but I can watch my roommate surf them while I stare and cuss...

Is this something common? Ive never come across this before.

nope, it still doesnt work right.....

this one really puzzles me. I tried using mozilla firefox to do it instead, which is what my roomate is using, and it came up with an alert and stated that "The connection was refused when attempting to contact www.ebay.com"

so it seems firefox is a little more specific about what the problem is but Im still not sure how to resolve it. Right now I am on a LAN at Purdue University which might have something to do with it but like I said earlier, my roomate surfs ebay and laughs at me.

If you have a firewall or router I don't think it would come up, if you have a firewall, try disconnecting it.
