hi.
i'm running a westell 2100 (adsl2) modem (for the seconf time). in week 39 the first modem broke, or more like it refused to work, i returned it and it proved to be broken. i got a new one! when installed the new modem we had internet for about 5 hours before the second modem refused to work. i tried disconnecting it from my router (Skyracer, something), but still it didn't work...
in short. what are the chances of my router killing my modem?

Hi doitwich welcome to CyberTechHelp.
what are the chances of my router killing my modem?
Not very likely at all.
Maybe they're not updating the firmware on their modems. How to firmware update a Westell 2100 modem (http://www.dslreports.com/faq/5421)

It sounds like you need to determine why it is not working. Its best to troubleshoot this without the router, that way your ISP can't blame the problem on the router.
With the PC connected to the modem, run "cmd /k ipconfig /all" and post the info back here. This will show us if you are getting a good IP address and a good DNS server address.

My cable modem freezes up quite often,im glad to see Spider say he doesnt think the router would affect it (Well my Wireless adapter)
When my modem locks up,i just go upstairs and reset it (Unplug it from Outlet, plug back in) It usually comes back straight away......
I dunno why its freezing up though, could it just be a bad modem??? (pcx5000)
Welcome to CTH doitwich,i hope your stay is pleasant :)

apparently my modem had a internal software fault... had the same problem (so to speak).... had to return to the shop a couple of times... they fixed it last time by reinstalling/adding xtra software...
Thanks for the welcome "the Dude":)
