java problems

i actually have a hard time explaining this problem in forums, but here goes my best attempt. I have downloaded the latest java updates and everything (yes, i have restarted my computer). I have been through the IE internet options menus and enabled all java and whatnot. I am actually able to do most things in java, except there are a few things that do not work. whenever i try to click some buttons, the button "depresses," it makes the click sound through my headphones, except IE doesn't move or behave in any manner that would signify a change in activity. for instance, at www.shockwave.com the entire page loads ok pictures and all, but when i click "sign in" nothing happens, same with "register." ehh, with the preface that i do not want to change internet browsers, does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this. also, i had this problem about 4 months ago and it was solved completely (i browsed other forums similar to this one) the only problem with that is i reformatted my system and lost the notepad file that had the instructions copied onto it. silly me, ehh? i do remember that i had to go into the regedit util and type some like

"register javascript.dll" and "register vbscript.dll"

or something like that if anyone knows what i'm talking about please help. p.s. sorry about the length.

Try deleting java and re-installing it from this link: http://java.com/en/index2.jsp?name=download

Good luck downloading Java to fix a JavaScript problem.

JavaScript is interpreted by the browser - updating the browser is the only way to update it's JavaScript interpreter. Other than that, there are options in IE to affect JavaScript under Tools->Internet Options->Security->Custom Level under Scripting. Enable whatever is necessary to get those sites to work. Also try using Firefox.
