Uninstalled Opera fouls shortcuts

Hi,
I properly uninstalled the Opera browser from my wife's computer but every time she makes a web page shortcut, When she tries to open it, a note appears saying the computer is unable to find Opera.exe. Obviously Opera .exe is gone and nowhere to be found. Yet somehow Opera is able to link with the shortcut. How can I get rid of this nuisance?

Thanks for your help.
John

Hi pathalo & welcome,
In Add/Remove Programs, click on the "Set Program Access and Defaults" Then check the Non-Microsoft option and then the Custom button. There you can reselect IE or FF or whichever browser you want as the default. It sounds like it could possibly still be set to Opera.

ps, don't you like Opera?

Hello uripyores and thanks for the warm welcome.

I am using Windows ME. It doesn't have the "Set Program Access and Defaults" tab in the Add/Remove Programs and none of the tabs I have lead to resetting the default browser. I will have to see how this is done. Perhaps it is the answer

Thanks for the swift response. Much appreciated.

Welcome

Goto Internet Explorer>Programs>
Check the box to check if IE is the default browser.

If that doesn't work then press the shift key & right-click on a shortcut, choose Open With then choose IE and check the box to always use the program

Ok. Have reverted to IE as the default browser. I think it has solved the Opera problem but it has created some others which I will try to resolve over the weekend.

When all is resolved (I hope) I will let you know.

In the meantime, I want to thank you so much for the help. The problem was a nuisance.

I meant to answer the question as to whether I like Opera. I like Opera and use it all the time, but my wife doesn't like it and I removed it from her pc. That's when the problem started.
