Connection Problems in Straight PC/Modem Setup After Router Died
So today my Linksys router finally gave way and died. Well, i thought, "Okay, I'll just pick a new one up at Best BUy tomorrow." So i continued to replace the router to just a straight ethernet connection between the PC and the modem. I thought that if i just turned off the PC and Modem, and switched cables, it would be fine. It Wasn't. It started up fine but i had a little pop up on my tool bar saying that i had "little or no conectivity." So I clicked "Repair" and it refreshed my IP. Now, say, i went into a program that normally worked (highest settings, nothing changed) like Counter Strike Source, it became choppy/ laggy, like how it was when every 5 seconds my router lost its connection right before it died. Earlier this day CS:S was running perfectly smooth, through my router, until late this evening. Even other programs that use the internet like Limewire show signs of problems, like Limewire won't even connect, saying, "No Internet Connection Found." I even Disabled my firewall, and nothing still works like it used to.
Please help me out asap!!! PS - My bandwidth does seem to fluctuate, according to Limewire, im hopping between a 0-250+ KB/s in consumption, so it seems that my bandwidth is almost stuttering... Last edited by Xiej; October 23rd, 2005 at 07:07 AM. |

Hi,
This might be an obvious answer but did you get the same type router for your NIC (i.e Ethernet/Token Ring)? Did you install new drivers for your new router? Did you install any updates for your previous router? Something has had to change to cause this problem. Let me know.

When should I Uninstall and Re-install the NIC card driver?
Uninstalling and Re-install the NIC card driver should be done when you have an internet or network connection that is working properly but you cannot connect to the internet or network that your pc is connected to. You have removed any routers and disabled all firewalls but you still cannot get online. For example if you are using a cable modem and the online or cable light is on solid but your pc shows limited or no connectivity. In this case your NIC card driver could be corrupted or an application such as a firewall could have the driver locked even though you have disabled the firewall. By Uninstalling and Re-install the NIC card driver, you will be replacing the previous driver with a new driver. Any program that may have prevented you from being able to access the internet or network you are connected to will have released the NIC card allowing for a new connection. Warning; you should only do this if you have a pc that has win2000/winXP installed on it from the manufacture. If you have the driver that came on a floppy disk or CD you can re-install it from the floppy disk or CD that came with your NIC card. For win98 and ME you should also have the Windows operating system install CD available incase it is required to re-install the NIC card driver. copy the link below and view the video on Uninstalling and Re-installing the NIC card driver. http://classifieds.classified-adds.n...uery=retrieval |
