Need help with windows 2003 / samba problem!

I really need someone to show me how dumb I am,

I am having problems mapping a drive in windows 2003 standard server. The drive I am trying to map is on a linux server which is accessed by a url. example \\files.compan.com\myhome. a prompt comes up asking for a Username: I enter "jliu" and a password. When I submit it the dialog comes back and prefaces the username with the windows domain name "whq\jliu". The linux authentication doesn't have a domain name in front of the username so it rejects the username. Windows XP and Windows 2000 computers can map the drive fine because those OS don't prefix the username with the domain name or computer name and just lets me enter an user name, HOW DO I GET AROUND THIS??

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
