FireFox and Mime error (i think :? )

Having a problem on my dad's PC and am at a loss as to what i can do. Running Win Xp on both the machines i mention.

The problem mainly occurs when he goes into yahoo and logs into his mail account, after entering the details firefox (version 1.07 - newly loaded again tonight) the download dialogue box appears asking if i want to save or open the file
'login'
it also says
login 'is a: application/octet-stream
from http://us.f250.mail.yahoo.com'
What should firefox do witht his file?

I've been trying to figure this out and if i'm googling this right it seems to be a problem with the handler for the mime extension - i'm assuming that it has lost it? If it tis this, how do i reset it to use the right application and what is it?

Until tonight, he couldnt even us IE to get in to his mail, it would just open up the page as a load of characters. But for some reason after i been trying things this evening, ie seems to be a happy bunny again

I've also encoutered this on my own pc, butwith different web pages (i can access his mail account fine) with irefox trying to download a page instead of displaying it.

Any ideas? This is driving me bonkers, Help!

EDIT: Sorry i meant to say that yahoo mail used to work on his pc up until a few weeks ago, and then this happened. There were a couple of viri and various diallers/adware installed (my mother downloading games - i thought it was the kids that were supposed to do that?) This has since been removed and i have run several scans and the system is now clear apart from this problem. I wondered if one of the little blighters had changed something that caused this problem.

Welcome

Try this
Enable popups from Firefox's preferences then login and see if it works.

Thanks, tried this and it kinda works.

I've added the f250.mail url to the allowed sites and things seem to work most of the time.
But
Only if i use standard sign in mode, secure mode still comes up with the same error.
And (y are things never simple?)
Now that i have reinstalled Firefox IE has reverted to the old problem, opening the page in absolute garbage, when i uninstall firefox, IE is fine.

Any explanation for whats actually happening?

Did you try disabling the popup stopper all together?

Yeah i did, but part of the reson for getting them to use firefox is the pop up blocker.
Like i say it all seems fine as long as i only log in in stadnard mose.
Obviously made no difference for the fact that IE is now not working again, regardless of the pop up blocker, would still love to know y the pop up affects the mime extensions in this way?

The only other thing I found was to test it be downgrading to 1.0.6

Maybe try reinstalling over that.
