Laundry List of Recent Problems
Ahh...where to start.
Several Days ago, my son downloaded something and we got the VX2.Look2Me Malware, and through HiJackThis and their support folks, we got rid of it. However, I noticed some issues with the machine after that. My IE began to give me JavaNullPointer errors when loading my company's home page. Well, I had IE 7.0 Beta, wasn't too thrilled with it, so I decided to remove it and re-install IE 6.0 to see if that corrected the problem. I removed the IE 7.0 using Add/Remove in Ctrl Panel and it reverted to IE 6.0.2900. I was still having the problems, so I decided to try a re-install of IE 6.0, but Microsoft would only gave instructions on doing that from XP SP1, and I have SP2. Well, using Microsoft's instructions, I uninstalled SP2, reinstalled IE 6.0, and then re-installed SP2. With me so far? Now, not only am I still g the Java error, I am also getting "Your Security Settings will not allow websites to use ActiveX Controls running on this computer". I went to Internet Options and made sure that all my Security Settings were set to the appropriate levels. I did Low, Default and Custom with everything enabled, and still getting the error. I went to the Advanced Tab in Internet Options and allowed everything under the Security Section. Still not working. This is a Home Computer - I have administrative rights. I think this VX2.Look2Me has messed with my registry and disabled/deleted some stuff, or the fix did. I also have Firefox, and when I try to enable Java Applets for Firefox under Java in the Control Panel there, I get an error stating "Please check that Firefox is properly installed on the system and/or that you have sufficient permissions to change system settings." Well, I have Firefox installed, and I am logged in as an Administrator. Something is screwed up. Also, when I download a test program to run some analysis, I first save it to a folder, it downloads, and when I click "Run" on the download diaglog box, the box disappears, but nothing happens. To get the file to run, I have to locate it in its destination folder and run it there. I tried to paint as accurate a picture as I can so you can see all that is happening and maybe be able to see something that may be missing or corrupt that is common with all these errors. Thanks for the help! |
