New Computer Can't Access Internet

So, I just received a new compute, it only had the harddrive formated so I've installed windows and everything, but I can't acces the internet at all.

I haven't been home much tonight, but my roomate tells me the "Network Controller Driver" needs installed, but I don't know where to find that. Everything else is working fine on my computer. Please help me out here with any advice at all!

Howdy and welcome to CTH:

You will need to use the systemboard cd that should have come with your new system to load the necessary drivers... OR,

Go to either the motherboard manufacturers website or the system manufacturers website and downl;oad and install the drivers from there..

But I can't access the internet to install the drivers (oh, and sorry about the duplicate, I was just trying to get this noticed)

So, the cd I need is the mobo support cd that came with my Asus A8N SLI motherboard right?

Where do I go from there. My options are chipset drivers programs, "Make Nvidia PATA RAID driver disk, Make Nvidia SATA RAID driver disk, and realtek AL C850 driver.

None of those will work..

You may have to search the cd for anything pertaining to LAN, Network or NIC !!

The driver should be on that cd..

Put the cd into the cd-rom drive.. Now. right click on the ethernet controller in Device Manager and select "Properties".. then, click on UpDate Driver and point it to the cd-rom driv when prompted.. You could also browse the cd in the window that will open for the folders I mentioned earlier..

XP has a vast amount of drivers in its database so it quite surprising it didn't find one for you.. How old is your XP cd??

ok I searched the cd rom drive and it says Hardware Update Wizard could not find the software on your computer for... Network Controller.

Could I perhaps burn the driver onto a cd from this computer and install it that way? I have no idea where to find a compatible one, though!

Hmmm... but if it doesn't seem to work, what can I possibly do? There is still hte yellow mark next to network controller. It's called Ethernet Driver... so that has to be it. Why can't new computers ever just go smoothly!

There is a small pogram called Belarc Advisor available from www.belarc.com

It is small enough to fit on a floppy.. Download it to a floppy and run it on your new system.. Hopefully it will tell use the make/model of your ethernet card!!
