My friend has a Dell PC with Win XP SP2 running Netscape 7.0 with e-mail capabilities.
After setting the POP server setting to its appropriate ISP mail server id, everything worked fine until he turned off the PC.
On turn on, the POP setting had changed to 127.0.0.1 and now he could not receive mail 'cause that setting is an internal port (right?).
He calls me up, I show him how to re-enter the correct server setting. All OK until turn off. Then scenario is repeated.
When we contacted the ISP, we were told that AntiVirus program we were running (McAfee's) was the culprit, that we should turn it off before accessing the e-mail program. Seems senseless to me since the AV is supposed to be on while e-mail downloads to prevent/catch suspect messages.
Any idea as to what causes this re-set?
Any ideas on fixing it permanently?
BTW, the SMTP setting stays fixed, no problem.
Thanks for your help. :dizzy:
