I would pick a distro that is pretty newb friendly. As far as that list of app's go either look into the linux alternatives for each or see if some are ported for linux. Stuff line Dreamweaver will have a linux alternative not sure about the dvd ripping stuff as I don't mess with dvd too much on my linux boxes.

I'll see if I can list some alternatives for you to check out.
Nero 6.0 (at least) -- K3b Dreamweaver 8.0 -- Screem / NVU / Bluefish Flash FXP 3.0 -- GFTP Bulletproof G6 FTP server -- ProFTPD MS Office (Excel, Word, ETC) -- OpenOffice / Abiword / Gnumeric PowerLink DVD -- Xine / Mplayer ACDSee 6.0 -- GThumb / Konqueror (it's built-in viewer) DC++ (Direct Connect File Sharing) -- Linux Port Azureus 2.3 -- Runs on linux Mozilla Firefox -- Runs on linux Outlook Express (Can Be Mozilla Thunderbird) -- Thunderbird WinAmp -- XMMS CDex 1.51 -- Grip DVD Decryptor -- see below DVD Shrink 3.2 -- dvd::rip Many fonts (True Type and others) -- not sure here, most should be available though As for which distro to use, all distro's will/should be able to run all of the above programs listed. You might want to check into ubunutu, fedora, and mandrake, as they are pretty easy to use and get used too. -kage

Heck of a post there Kage.
Its like a mini listing of that huge page with comparable Linux programs..... I'll dig it up... As for a distro, i have been trying out SuSe on new Linux users and they seem to have no problems. It also asks if you want to install MS TrueType fonts at the end of the install. Might be what you want. SuSe has just released 10.0, it looks great.
