I have a friend who has a Linksys Wireless-G PCI adapter that was working for quite a while, until recently it started dropping the connection. The access point is only one room over and the signal strength is always Very Good or Excellent. Basically, no matter what she is doing, the adapter will randomly disconnect then reconnect to the network. It takes only 10 secs or so to reconnect but it is annoying when it happens constantly.

I first thought it was a software conflict so I removed a few things that could be causing a problem. Then I gave her a static IP address instead of a dynamic one, and that worked for a few hours, and the problems started all over again.

So basically I'm not sure where to look. I can't tell if it's a hardware problem, a software problem, or something wrong with the access point (which is also a linksys). Any ideas?

Make sure the firmware is up to date on the router and the access point. Latest drivers on the pci card was well. My brothers USB wi-fi adapter is a linksys WUSB and that hunk of junk has never been stable.

Ironic! I came here because of the same problem. I was playing a game a half hour ago and I lagged out. My internet drops out from time to time and its beyond irritating.

I have the exact same card and the exact same problem and the exact same headache! :goulet:

Firmware and driver are both up to date. :/

I've seen the problem before with Linksys wireless... They (Linksys) runs multiple driver revisions behind the wireless chip manufacturers revisions - in an effort to simplify. Try downloading the chip manufacturers' ie Broadcom, wireless driver and utils and install. After uninstalling Linksys stuff. Solid connections. I was amazed!
