Unhappy Ping Request Timed Out:Help!

For a while now i have not been able to ping any sites.I have made sure my firewall(Norton) is not blocking anything and microsoft firewall is OFF. Heres a breakdown of what i've done so far

1.I've done the whole ms-dos ping/ tracert and all i get is "request timed out" for any site i type in. I can't ping my default gateway-"request timed out"

2.I've gone to pcpitstop.com and did the ping test and all i get are grays,

3.i've done the Trace route test and get 100% loss....

In the past i've been able to do these with no loss and pings in the green. My hardware hasn't changed nor have i installed anything new.....
I'm running WindowsXP SP2, (NiC)Intel Pro/100 VE Network Connection, My connection is Cable, not wirelses, no routers, just 1 computer.

--Help will be much appreciated and thx in advance--

go into device manager and check the NIC to make sure its working ok. sounds like thats the prob.

I am able to ping 127.0.0.1, and my NIC checks out fine. I wonder what could be causing this..?...

It sounds like a firewall is blocking it. Make sure the XP firewall has been turned on (sometimes it seems to have a mind of its own). Try turning off the norton software completely to see if ping will work. Lastly, don't worry about.. its only pings

cmd /k ipconfig/all [use to start ipconfig from 'Run']
cmd /k ping <some website, like google or yahoo> [use to ping 'www.google.com' from 'Run']

Sorry, meant off. (Sometimes my fingers have a mind of their own. Can I ask why you want the pings to work? A lot of people work hard so they can't be pinged.

pings are one way a cracker can locate machines to attack. The harder it is to 'see' your machine, the less likely it is to get attacked.

doesnt look like a valid gateway to me. i might be wrong, but i have never seen a gateway that ended with 6 zeros. try and ping it. get with your ISP and ask them if that is correct.

just because you cant ping out does not mean others cant ping you.

That is a valid gateway for a cable provider but its .0.0 not .000.000 I can't seem to ping the ip IENoob is using. The ISP may have done some work to filter out ping over their network. The network that I work on most for a living has pings filtered so no one can ping inside it and no none inside can ping out.

Sorry bout that, Default Gateway> 24.137.176.1

Hey everyone i was at a friends house the other day who's with the same ISP, and he also is unable to ping so i'm assuming my ISP is the reason i can't ping.
