Mic does not work for Hercules Fortissimo II

I cant get the mic to work on my sound card (Hercules Fortissimo II). I saw the post where the guy had a similar issue but was able to rectify by making sure the mic was toggled in Windows. I have verified that the mic option is toggled in Windows as well as the Hercules software. I have tried several mics with no success. It acts like it is not getting any signal at all. I have removed and reinstalled the card several times. The sound portion works fine. I had never used the mic portion of this sound card but have recently gotten into some games where Teamspeak would really help. I previously had had a SB Live card that I had used the mic on and it worked fine. I had gotten rid of that card awhile ago (shoulda kept it aye ? :).
