Unhappy Networking Problem

Hi All,
Im over in Iraq and have this wireless or LAN network setup with a computer owned by our American counterparts. My other soldiers have 2 other laptops connected to this network and are working fine. I have put in all the information supplied by the host the same as the other laptops with the slight difference needed in ip addresses. This laptop connects to the WLAN or the LAN no problems with good strenght. The web pages will not open. When i go to status showing the send/receive, the send is going up but the receive does not. It appears that my laptop is comunicating out but not receiving in. All setup options are the same as the other laptops. Any help appreciated.
Cheers Davy

Can you ping webpages?

Goto Start>Run>
and type
cmd /k ping google.com

See if you get a result.

Have you tried a different browser?

Can you connect to the Router config?

The address to get to it depends on the model
Linksys is http://192.168.1.1
Belkin is usually http://192.168.2.1

Get it by going to Start>Run>
cmd /k ipconfig

What is your IP Address and can you ping yourself or other local machines?

Looks like they have you statically addressing the laptop. Thats not a bad thing but it does look like for some reason your dns isn't working....

DNSDomain = (empty)
DNSDomainSuffixSearchOrder = (empty)
DNSEnabledForWINSResolution = FALSE
DNSHostName = DAVYLAPTOP
- DNSServerSearchOrder (FAILED)

On the wireless adapter check the dns ip you use and make sure its a good dns ip. This is if you are trying to connect using the wi-fi adapter. Also do they by chance have WEP or WPA setup on this wi-fi network?

Thanks for the supply badwayz,
They are not using any WEP or WPA. The DNS address im using is the same as the other computers that are working fine. I did enter their ip address in as my ip address, straight away my connection started to receive, but then it recognised the duplicate ip addresses, as you said when i have a sepparate ip address the DNS does not seem to work. This is the same for both wireless and LAN, so strange its a brand new laptop. could it be that it has never connected to the internet before? Does explorer need to be configured in some way?
Cheers Davy

hmmm this just makes me wonder. Go to Start/Run in the run box type cmd and click ok. That will open up a command line window in there type ipconfig /all and post the output in here.
