Tricky networking only parts work

I recently have been trying to set up a wireles network at my home. Using a USB type network drive to connect to the network hub I have encountered an odd problem. The internet does not work, logins for any software does not work. basic troubleshooting does not work. iTunes radio and the main iTunes music store does connect via the network when nothing else does. I have tried everything from disableing my firewalls to repairng the network many times. I have only limited networking skills but this seems odd to me. Please help me.
