I have an older computer (not my primary) with Windows 98. I have 2 XP computers and would like to connect a router to all three computers. I bought a router and later realized that in order to use the 98 operating system, I need to upgrade it to Windows SE or ME. I have the upgrade for ME, but never installed it. Generally speaking, is this upgrade a nightmare or can a computer dummy such as myself get through it? Thanks. Incidentally, I've changed my address to email address removed by mod: Murray

Here is an article you might want to read.
Is an upgrade really necessary (http://) and here are some comments I came across about it.
I have seen posts that indicate that ME is the worst Operating System that Microsoft
has put on the market. Be happy! Upgrading to ME is really downgrading, or so I have
heard.
I,ve heard..its so bad..it eats cd drives!
Bad Idea........
What do you think you will get from ME that you can't
already get from 98....??
he'll get a nice coaster to put hot coffee cups on saves his puter desk so can't be all bad huh?....
Don't uprgade to ME, it is really a DOWNGRADE. ME SUX, I just had to reformat back to 98!!

Many people ran or run it without incident. An install is pretty straightforward. It will be best if you format the drive before installing. An upgrade on top of an existing operating system has the risk of BAD side effects. You can do a fresh install with what you've got. It will just ask for the 98 CD when ready.
