Outlook2003-upgrade problem

I upgraded Outlook 2000 to 2003, now I can't send or receive mail unless I right click on it's button in the button bar! It usually just crashes if I don't get it right. It's bizzare. Also, when I test my mail account settings, it says unable to make network connection, yet it does (connect using Broadband) when I do the right-click thing. Just now, when I went to Test Account Settings, it decided to do a Send\Receive behind the scenes. I then couldn't close the dialog because Outlook becomes inoperational. This is driving me mad, and the MS Knowledge Base doesn't even get near to helping me out on this one. It's something to do with the upgrade, but God knows what.
Any help would be GLADLY received...
Stuart.

~sigh~

Thanks Snurfen.
It's a bit of a major adjustment, but I'll do it nevertheless, since nothing else I have done has worked. I'll just say a prayer first...

Hmmmm...I uninstalled Outlook 2003 (not the whole of Office, since the rest of it works fine), re-installed it, and.....tar nar!!!...it still has the problem - I have to right-click the button in the button bar to force Outlook to start the Send\Receive request. When I Test Account Settings, it is also still saying 'no network connection available', yet there is. Could it be something to do with auto assigned DNS or WINS refs, or something?

Ok guys, has anyone asked him if he deleted his HKEY Registry files through Adaware? If so, the update won't work and therefore you are getting the errors.
If you haven't gotten rid of your HKEY files, then you need to check your settings in outlook and see if it's configured to LAN, never dial a network connection...
If that doesn't work, then check with Microsoft updates, you might be missing one of the many(ha ha) security updates regarding outlook and IE.
Hope this helps! Just a newbie here...
Cheers!

Thanks 1centwiz.
Outlook generally does work. It just gets 'stuck' when I send or receive mail.
The connection setting is set to using LAN, as it was before the upgrade.
I have also installed all available and required Office and Windows updates - ALL of them!
I am sure it's something to do with the connection settings (DNS, WINS or something like that) but God knows what.
Any other ideas mate?

Stuart.

Usually, all settings in DNS and WINS should be auto, especially if you can browse the web ok from that machine.

What about the "Logon network security" selection in the security tab, whats that doing in relation to your browser settings?

Two other things to check, if not already done......
In the Exchange General tab, is "When starting" set to "Automatically detect connection state" (thoroughly recommended) and

Is it showing Connected or Offline in the Outlook tray (bottom right of Outlook window)?

Yeah, you're right about DNS and WINS. They are auto, but I don't exactly know what they are and so suspected these settings as being the culprit.

I can't specifically find a "Logon network security" selection, and so can't follow your rec. I haven't changed any security settings, and so would assume that Office 2003 had inherited these OK settings from before.

Also, I don't have an Exchange menu anywhere, and so can't check this setting you speak of. I can't even find an equivalent setting which concerns me, although it is set to use a LAN connection and not use dial-up - my mail accounts are to my Virgin and Yahoo accounts.

The tray icon sticks on an image of two envelopes, one above the other, slightly offset, and the roll-over message is "Outlook is synchronising folders". If this icon stays there, it means Outlook is 'stuck' until I right-click on it's button in the button bar. If I double-click this icon (in the tray), it says "Outlook is not responding. If using an Exchange server e-mail account, you can cancel requests by blah blah blah". Whilst I was typing this in my browser, the Outlook icon changed to the synchronised state (ie. checking for mail). I then am no longer able to Restore Outlook; I have to right-click the button to even make it appear! It's as if it gets stuck until focus is given to the application by this right-clicking event.
Additionally, I have noticed that I now get an error when closing Outlook if I have viewed or created a Note - "Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not set". "OK". Then "The note will close and your changes will not be saved". Options OK and Cancel. Outlook even 'stuck' when I was copying that message (with the dialog open), until I right-clicked on it's button.

Sorry. This is a now a long reply, and I've probably confused matters now, but what can I do! I think I will just try to get Office 2k back on.

Stuart
PS. Thanks for all the help so far.
