Hi Folks,
I've been trying to install a new version of an e-mail program, but just as it starts to unzip, a Norton Password Manager 2004 window pops up in front of it and demands to be installed. While I do have Norton Security System 2005, I know nothing and want nothing to do with the Password Manager. So far: 1. I deleted all obvious icons and programs for the Password Manager. 2. I uninstalled all of Norton. 3. Pounded the table a lot. 4. Sent an e-mail to Norton but have yet to hear anything. Still the stupid NPM blocks my installation. I even tried obeying and installing, but it ran into a glitch and wanted to delete something from my computer that was blocking it, and I wasn't going for that. I did use Explore to find all evidence of the text Norton Password Manager and came up with ShelllconCache. What is that and would it help/hurt if I deleted it? Any other ideas? Thank you all so much for your help. |

Norton like to do that. I had to go into the registry to get rid of all of Norton.
This is the name of the password manager file. acctmgr.exe ShelllconCache is something to do with your icons so I wouldn't delete that. If you want to look in the registry do this. Go to start/run and type in regedit then click on all the + look in all the software folders/the windows folders and see if you see anything relating to Norton or Nav(that's also norton) and just delete them from in there, then empty your re-cycle bin.

Howdy mapgirl,
DO NOT follow the previous suggestion and delete anything from your registry. This is absolutely the worst thing you can do to correct any problem. Deleting registry entries without specific knowledge of their purpose can damage your 98 beyond repair. If you are patient, I'm sure someone with more complete knowledge of your problem will post back some valid suggestions.

It would be in your best interest to download the Password Manager User's Guide from Here. It includes instructions for disabling it (though you will have to review it comparing it to the steps you have already taken). I would really recommend you don't take any more steps in manually uninstalling in any way. This will lead to more problems.
