Problem with New Computer

So i just got this new computer with
3.0ghz P4 w/ ht
1gb ram
Sapphire x700 pro video card

and i cannot get doom 3 or half life 2 to pull up. I click on the applications and they pop up for a second and then nothing. I press control-alt-delete and see that their processes are running in the background but nothing pops up. Just wondering what is going on thanks.

Get the latest drivers for the video card, I read a bunch and that solved a lot of problems for people with these games.:

Also check your windows updates (particularly DirectX) are up-to-date.
