Just a general question.
Win 98 system, on boot up, "DPMS Mode Off" flashes in a red box as part of the boot up sequence. I'd like to know what this means if anyone has an answer. The only recent change to the system was that Norton prompted that the system was in "AUDIT" mode and would turn it off for the user; and they switched monitors. I guess the red box has me curious. thanks. Riva

Thanks to both the above for the responses. I appreciate the links.

I had found the "explanation" of what "DPMS" is, but it didn't really help that much in terms of remedying the situation, or to be honest to even deciphering if it was a problem that needed fixing. It's all greek to me.

The second link implies that re-installing monitor appropriate drivers might be a remedy? or do I just need to change a setting in the display drivers dialog box? I do know they didn't put any new drivers in, just plugged the bigger monitor in when they had it given to them.

thanks,

woohoo fri night and I'm off to a party. tty--monday?? hehe.

It may be normal depending on what graphics card you have installed.
If it is giving this report, then surely the graphics adaptor should have settings to overcome this nusiance.
Laters drivers for monitor and graphics adaptor would be my first guess.
But then again, just turn your head at bootup and you'll never know it's there and possibly save you more time in fixing it or making it worse.:michaelan
