Okay I finally got a bigger drive to use. I have a seagate 8gb and the new one is a hitachi deskstar7k80 40 gb. How do I formatt this drive and do I put it in a a slave and then when I transfer all my stuff how does it become the primary master. I treid to fdisk and formatt it on another tower that didn't have a hd but in the start up it did not even recognize the drive as being connected. It was detecting forever and never found it. Used F4 to sip and tried to go from there to no avail.

I'm making a lot of assumptions here that you know when and how to power down while making some of these changes.:fyi:
No problem.
Make your new drive master and unhook ribbon cable to old drive.
Now boot up using flop boot disk.
Fdisk, partition, make 1st partition active, format.
Now make new drive slave (jumpers) and hook old drive back up, master.
Make sure it recognizes both drives.
Now, couple of ways, but XXCopy (http://www.programurl.com/xxcopy.htm) does well. Just follow instructions.
Make sure new drive is set at the d: prompt.
XXCopy c: d: /clone.
If your drive letters differ, match right drive with right designated letter.
When finished, slave old drive to new master.
Should boot right up.
Of course this works perfectly on paper.;) Done it many times with no probs.
You may have to get in the bios at times to tell what drive to boot.
Good luck.:michaelan
