I recently assembled a system, it's been operational for about a week now. When i'm running Warcraft 3 or it's expansion TFT the system "freezes" (the sound loops and repeats continuously and the monitor goes on standby - blank screen and orange power light) This also happens when I'm viewing .avi video files. The problem occurs varying lenghts of time into the activity and has been going on from the start of the system's life. Everything else I've installed has run perfectly for periods of time up to 48hrs (nothing has been tested beyond that time frame) Other programs that work fine include Zone Alarm Pro firewall, Norton AV 2005, Media Player 10 for any audio, Starcraft/Broodwar, Ares, Azureus, NFS Underground 2 (highest graphics settings pose no problem whatsoever), eMule, msn messenger, Opera, IE, ePSXe.
System Specs:
AMD Athlon 64 3500
1024 dual channel ddr400
MSI Neo4-F
xfx geforce 6600 256ddr PCIE (card has a power connector on it, which i have connected to the power supply)
Windows XP Pro /w service pack 2
directx 9 c

Windows has no "Allow windows to turn off this device to save power" option for the video card. Alrdy tried running without AV and FW, doesn't help. Problem occurs with both divx player and media player. Anyone else having this prob, and is it video related? perhaps codecs? I'm using divx 6 player. I've checked with blizzard concerning warcraft 3 video issues but since problem occurs with .avi I do not have high hopes of them solving this problem.

Additional Info 11/12/05 : Tried downgrading to DirectX 9.0. Check settings (dxdiag) when testing Direct 3D Acceleration problem occurs, no help in troubleshooter. With hardware acceleration down two notches in "Display Properties > Settings > Advanced" I seem to be able to view .avi videos. Could be a fluke, will test further. With Direct 3D Acceleration off War3 hangs at loading screen. Tried loading war3 with 3D Acc on then turning it off, original problem still occurs.

Well, although I found the solution myself I figured I'd save anyone else who mayhave this problem the trouble by posting it. Amazingly enough, although it's a fairly new card the video drivers for my xfx geforce 6600 PCIE card had some bugs and there were alot of version changes since that. I went from v66.81 to v77.72 and all problems were solved. Hope this saves a good person some trouble ;)

Thanks for any effort on fellow posters' part to resolve my issue.
