Intelligent Design in Kansas' schools

http://www.cnn.com/2005/EDUCATION/11....ap/index.html

TOPEKA, Kansas (AP) -- At the risk of re-igniting the same heated nationwide debate it sparked six years ago, the Kansas Board of Education approved new public school science standards Tuesday that cast doubt on the theory of evolution.

Sounds like a very GOOD school board to me.
Let them (schools) teach both.

Same fight that has been going on for years, and many more years to come.
"Do you think intelligent design should be taught alongside evolution in schools?" Yes. The more information gathered make for better choices.
Whatever the choice, let's live like there will be no tomorrow in a dignified way. Whether the Higher Power or Big Bang theory is right, we are still destroying the Earth and man's moralities with garbage. If you believe in one or the other, get your crap straight.
Try and have a great day with what you believe to be true.

It is generally accepted (at least among educators) that one of the most important things a student can develop is intellectual curiosity, the desire to know more. Sadly, all too often when it is proposed they be introduced to beliefs/theories/ideas that challenge generally accepted knowledge, the riots begin.

Both the theory of evolution and intelligent design are theories, yet to be proven beyond all doubt. I don't see any problem in exposing students to the truths that both are theories and both exist.

I also agree with having both taught. They could also maybe teach a small combination of both (theistic evolution) or something, or they could just teach those two theories and let the students figure out what they believe.

::To the tune of duelling banjos..............::

Guys, whilst being respectful of your personal beliefs and your priviliged position to live in countries where you are allowed to express your beliefs, I can't get my head around one part of "Inteligent Design".

That is, what a piddle-poor excuse the theory has to explain fossils (I paraphrase) "God put 'em there".
C'mon folks, you'll start trying to tell me "Lost" is a true life drama next .

I repeat what I said about theistic evolution, where the supporters believe that evolution had a "helping hand" guiding evolution in the correct direction.

If it can't be proved scientifically, it must be Gods work. Right?

Well, no. It just means if it can't be proved scientifically, it hasn't been proved yet.

I still don't see any problem with exposing students to theories not proven even if not everybody agrees those theories are reasonable. Quite a few established facts were once theories that got their originators in trouble.

I believe the learning process includes learning to separate fact from fiction, learning not to fear looking around outside established boundaries, learning not to take everything at face value and learning how to use information to make informed choices.

That would be something. Many things are based on theory only.
Since our life on Earth is equal to the size of a grain of sugar white sand on Pensacola Beach, or just a blip at the speed of light, we will all know the truth very quickly. Is it God or a theory? It will be way too late to choose when that time comes, especially when you die fast and have no time to think of it.
The platypus was quite a find.
Amazing. God's joke or evolution joke?

Uri, what do you call a gay cat with a braided beak?
A Plait-billed ducky puss.
