Sometimes I incl a midi file with an e-mail to a friend, no problem. Now one of them asked me how he can extract a copy of such a sound file from my html e-mail, I really have not got a clue. It is not an attachment therefore it is invisible. Any advice?

How do you create the email with a midi file?

Why not just send the midi file as an attachment?

Hi Degs
I use the std options available with OE. Background and then Picture, Color and/or Sound. That is if his security settings will allow him/her to receive html e-mails.
Yes, I can send a midi file as an attachment but then the receiver will not be surprised on his birthday, etc when opening the e-mail and the music auto plays.
The little I know is that the sound file is changed to midi text commands??? From there on it becomes high tech for me :-)

I believe doing it that way the midi file is embedded into the email.

I don't think there is a way to extract it.

Here's what someone else suggested.

I took a peek at the source code of the html in the message by highlighting the message in the Inbox, then right clicking and choosing "Properties", then "Details" tab, then "Message Source" button. And what I found was a hyperlink to the midi. So the next time you get one of those embedded midi files you could look at the message source and it should show you where it's hyperlinked to (probably somewhere on the web). Then get the midi from the hyperlink. I don't know myself I just found that from another board where somebody was asking the same question.

Thanks Idnew for the tip, I sent a few dif midi/e-mails to myself to check but no luck. Copied/saved Properties as a txt file, searched but found nothing, pity. I will have to join Degs and call it a day.

If it is a HTML email and the file is stored on a server then it will have the hyperlink to the file on the server.

A midi file embedded into the email as a background is different.
