Well i have an old aptiva pc that died last year but i have decided to revive it and have had a lot of trouble with it

here are its specifications:
AMD K6-2 333 mhz CPUoverclocked to 350 mhz (this was an accident, i was fiddling with the jumpers and i guess i didn't put it back in its proper position, and our motherboard didn't come with a manual)

64 MB of ram
6.5 gb HD
integrated ati rage pro turbo graphics
integarated sound
3com graphics card

well thats an overview now here is my problem:

I have tried many things to get it working, i put linux on it succesfully but got rid of it because i missed windows, i then downloadied an ME disk and used it to install: it had major stability problems and gave many dll errors.

Then i used its recovery disk, which worked but wasn't SE, so it wasn't compatible with hte thernet card, and had the same problems that i spent hours fixing when we first got it

Finally i found a 98 SE bittorent and dowloaded it, and burned it using the slowest speed we had. I installed it but now it gives me dll errors on boot (i fixed this by downloading them on our new XP) and it only gives me one error on startup now. BUT it has no drivers, so it is in 16 color mode and such and will not install any of the ones i try (like the ethernet) because it doesn't recognize the cd in the drie (gives me a not found error) an tries to get the files from C:\WIndows\Precopy, which is empty (i did a cd install)

i am very willing to reformat and intall, i just need to knw how to do it so that it will work properly(windows had drivers for almost everything, but wouldn't install them from the disk)

Howdy Cerberus42,

Sounds like you have done quite a bit of changes there. Is there a legal way to download a copy of 98SE? FYI - CTH policy doesn't provide for assisting pirating or the problems it causes (which are endless).

We aren't able to help you with any of the illegally downloaded OS's. Your best bet is to try cleaning up the hard drive and reinstalling the original OS.

It isn't illegal if i already payed for the OS, i had but the disk it came with had numerous "crap" that messed with the computer, plus it halved the clock speed on the computer

I had the same problem with a legal disk, it is a perfect copy of one. I know that there is something that i am doing wrong but i was just wondering what it was

think what could cause this if it was just a regualr windows 98 SE bootable cd
