I bought a used computer with Windows 98 on it. It came with a virus, so I wanted to just reformat the whole computer. I didn’t have a Windows 98 disc so I borrowed one from a friend. I was able to reformat the C drive, but I can’t reinstall windows. When I turn the computer on, at the bottom of the screen it says:

Verifying DMI Pool Data …….
Boot from ATAPI CD-ROM : Failure …

Invalid system disc
replace the disc, and press a key

Nothing I try gets me beyond this point. What should I do? I'm not great with computers.

Are you using a boot disk?

No, I don't have a boot disk yet. I read I can download it from this website:

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Is there a place you can recommend to get a bootdisk. If not, which option below should I choose:

Windows 98 OEM | Mirror1 | 2 | 3
Windows 98 Custom, No Ramdrive | Mirror1 | 2 | 3

thanks

Use either. Both will give you the necessary tools to fdisk, partition, format, and install a W98 CD. Boot from the floppy you create to do the above and then go into CD at win98/setup. :michaelan
