I've been following the story. Pretty ugly. They're doing the right thing (at least for the moment) by pulling them off the shelves but who knows what's next that you won't know about? I don't think they believe they did anything wrong, they just got caught.

I wonder if the gamers are rushing to get one before they're all pulled off the shelves.

What I read about it was that the rootkit was only hazardous in NT OS's. In any other system it was merely hiding itself and not gathering data. Still a notion for alarm.
