Hi there and welcome to CTH.
Fixing this old laptop really depends on a couple of things:
1) Do you have an operating system (and licence) you can install
2) Does the machine make it easy for you to install it.
The manual for the laptop is available here at IBM

If you have an operating system that supports booting from CD and the laptop allows CD Booting (it should if you have a CD-rom installed in the removable drive bay), there should be no problems. However, if you need to install Win 95 (CDs are not bootable) then you will have problems because the Floppy drive and CD-Rom cannot be in the system at the same time.

Before we can go any further we need to know if you have a CD_Rom drive for the laptop and if you have a legal Operating System to install.

I have a cd-rom drive in the laptop and also a floppy drive that plugs in to the side of it.I dont have an operating system but I know someone who has a windows xp disc he purchased Im not sure if it will be compatible though.I already found a boot disk that I think worked cause now when I turn it on it just says need operating system and stops.Do you know if there is a certain command I need to type in or screen I need to go to before I insert an operating system disk when I find one?Thank you for responding.I appreciate it.
