My Compaq Presario 1620IL model is with P4 516, 2.93Ghz, 533Mhz FSB and Mother board: MS7174 Intel 915GV chipset. I desire to have duel booting of WindowsXP and Linux Redhat. Installation of both in different partition is OK. But not booting after again I on my machine.
1) What is the problem ?
2) My local vendor told, refering compaq, that 915 chipset mother board does
not support XP & Redhat. And I need to get a patch. -- Is it?
3) Is there any other way, if not where can I get that patch?

I did a little searching on the matter, and that board should work with linux. I'm having a bit of a hard time understanding your english. When you said 'But not booting after again I on my machine.' did you mean that after you install linux it won't boot? What kind of error message, if any, did you get when booting? Did you install windows first, and then linux, or the other way around?

I was shipped a brand new Compaq presario with DOS OS preloaded. Thereafter I got WinXP and then Linux Redhat-9 installed. "Cold booting"?-- I then shutdown the machine and when booted again I read only "bootgui" appeared in the middle of my monitor.
I have both WinXP & Redhat-9 CDs with me. So tell me how I repeate the excercise again.

Bootgui? Like...a gui boot screen? Or the text 'bootgui'?
If you want to do it again, install windows first (be sure to leave room on your hard drive for linux), then once it is set up install linux on a second partition. That way red hat will install the grub boot loader and you will be able to choose wether to boot Windows or Red Hat at boot.
