new Mac -- iTunes will not burn a disk. Seems to start to (initilaises) then ejects disk, says: 'failed to calibrate the laser power level for this media.' -- Please let me know if you have any idea what this means? Is it iTunes or the Mac? Thanks.

Sounds like it's the cd-rs you are using. Try another brand.

seems you may be right buzz. flatmate lent me a disk (unlabelled and from china!) and it worked fine. meanwhile, the disks being rejected are 'ultimate compatability' TDK (i bought 30 of them). any idea why they don't work, and which should i now buy? are there different types? -- thanks again for help.

I generally shy away from TDK and Verbatum disks. I've just had far more bad luck with those brands. I buy Sony, exclusively. But I have used PNY and Memorex in the past and they've worked well too.
