I always get a message at start up " operating system not found"

If I go to safe mode and reboot, I do not get that message and my system will boot up. What could be wrong? Scan disc doesn't find any problems.
ANY ONE HAVE ANY IDEAS. I AM RUNNING WINDOWS ME

How old is your Battery? I've seen this problem with a dieing Cmos battery.

Also, take a look in the bios to make sure of how the boot order is setup.... Try setting it to the Hard drive to boot first. Just for testing....

Thanks for your response. My computor is a little over a year old so I have no idea how to tell if the battery is good or dying. Is there any way to check ( or other symptoms) if it is a weak battery?
Also, sorry , but I have no idea how to check the bios to see how the boot order is set up.
Any other ideas?

Another sign of a dud battery is that your computer clock doesn't keep the time.
To get into bios varies from pc to pc, try holding down 'delete' when you turn your pc on as this works on alot of pcs.

I went to the system BIOS and changed it so the hard drive would boot first. I went through step by step confirmation in the start up. My clock keeps the time right. But still the computor boots up and says "operating system not found" until I start in safe mode and restart my computor. Then it boots up normally.
AS long as I restart by going to start, shut down and restart, it starts normally. But if I shut it down, and turn it on with the power button, it boots up to "operating system not found"
Sorry, if this dosen't make sense, but I don't know how to explain it different.
