Hi,
I have a problem, i can connect to the internet, but as soon as i do this, no data transfer occurs. By this, i mean when the connection box, bytes recieved and bytes sent remain the same, somethin like 300 and 500. Also opening anythin like MSN, IE, Outlook etc. comes up with instant error messages.
I have had this before, and also some of my friends have. I had tried everything i knew, checking all properties of modems, dial up networking etc. Got some friends to look at it, even rang up TIME who manufactured it, all to no avail.
This only known method i have of fixing this, is formating, or deleting C:\Windows, then reinstalling Windows, but this messes up system files, so i may aswell format.
Id really not like to format again, anyone had the same problem or know how to fix it? Thanks for reading ;o)

Hi MrBooleano - While you are on line, have you tried to ping your ISP to see if there is a response from their server? If not give it a try. Also note how many packets were sent, received and lost. To do this, open a MS DOS prompt and type:
ping your.isps.address.
My ISP is xtra.co.nz so I type:
ping xtra.co.nz
Now, you say you are getting error messages when you open your browser and email client. Can you please post these error messages in full. We will need that information to help you.

Hi, I have the same problem, but mine started when I re-formated my Windows ME.
The error messages I kept recieving were:
'Raudal has caused an error in (unknown)
please restart your computer if problem persist'
same messages for 'Explorer', 'Msinmn', 'Loadqm'
But what is baffling me is the fact that I can dial up to connect to the net.
TCP/IP has been reinstalled ( many a time, now)
can any one help me thanks for your time

Hi Cyndi - welcome to CTH. Please start a new thread for your problem. It is very likely that your issue will turn out to be unrelated to the problem MrBooleano has and it is very difficult trying to help two people with different problems in one thread. When you start your thread, please check the spelling of Raudal (there is no such windows file) and make sure that you post the error messages in full. Thanks :)

Hmm, that problem sounds like mine actually. The error messages i recieve, say from outlook express, are the same messages one would get if you tryed sending/recieving in outlook express while offline. Basically, every application thinks that i am not connected, when trying to ping interenet address in DOS, i get no reply. Any ideas?

What happens when you try Ping Localhost or Ping 127.0.0.1. Do you get a reply or an error message? If you get an error message, please note it carefully and post it in full here.

After trying to ping 127.0.0.1 it comes up with the following error:
ping 127.0.0.1
Unable to initialize Windows Sockets interface, error code 0.
After testing any other IP addresses of interenet named addresses, i get the same error. Any ideas from that?

Hi again MrBooleano - Have a look at this document from Microsoft Error Message: The Page Cannot Be Displayed (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;q241344&). It seems to describe your problem and offers several possible fixes.
