Optimizing Win95
I have win 95 in my sons room and I would like to upgrade it to Win98.
I am running Win XP Pro in Office ~ Son does not need the Internet right now. But I would like to have some1 help me in getting this together for him. I have made a Start up Disk from the Win 95. But What would one suggest as far as bringing this to the Best Performance with the Ram that it has? Have not really check but I know it is not enough for WinXp). But I would like to know if it is possible to be able to download programs for perfecting Win95 on a diskette? And if Some of the Cleaning Applications that I have installed on my WinXp will work with his machine? Or should I just Start with Win95 Forum and ask ask Questions arise? I hope this does not confuse you in any way. A little bit tired today Rough one... ![]() Any help on how to START to Optimize Win95 with the help of Internet 6.0 along w/WinXp Pro Sp2 would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks again Happy Safe Holidays

No My sons PC will not have access to the INTERNET. I said that fore I would like to learn how I can use my PC via diskette hopefully(Because I am having problems with the CD). To bring his performance up so that I would be able to upgrade 95 to 98. I have High speed internet w/WinXp Pro Sp2. So I would like to download or use what I have on mine to perfect his. I hope that makes sense?

A start up disk created from the Windows 95 control panel wouldn't be created with the ability to operate the CD-ROM. I think going here: http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm and creating a Start Up Disk of "Windows 98 SE Custom" would be a much better choice. To create the Start Up Disk, download the Windows 98 SE Custom file, pop in a diskette, then run the downloaded file. If I understand you right, you want to optimize, remove or disable whatever you can from Windows 95 so it won't be competing for resources with Windows 98 when you upgrade to it. I personally don't know of optimizing programs for it. The best I know is to go into Control Panel then Add/Remove and uninstall things. If Anyone Has Input Feel Free To Jump In.

As far as RAM XP needs, both Home and Pro say...
128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)

Well to start with you can only use the upgrade win98 to put over win95 without changing some file names. If there is nothing on the win95 machine that you need then it would be best to fdisk and format and install the full version of Win98 on it. Is your win98 just win98 full version? Not SE or 1st edition.
System requirements: Check to verify that your PC components meet Win98’s minimum requirements: 66-MHz 486 or faster processor, at least 16M of RAM and at least 200M of free hard drive space.
