I get this error message on my laptop that i just recieved. Its an old laptop. (NEC 4050H) Whenever i start the computer up, it brings up the info screen finding all my components and what not. Then it tells me that the "save file to disk" option is missing from my computer. Then it tells me no OS found. Now i know there is an OS cause i can get on it through the setup. Right after i turn on the comp I click F2 for the setup and set my date and time and all that mumbo jumbo and i click save. It gives me the same screen as before with the "no save file to disk option" then magically windows 95 shows up and my destop loads like a normal computer. Talk about weird. I don't know whether the last owner fully setup the computer right or what but all the stuff i save in the setup is never saved when i turn the computer off. When i turn it on the next time it tells me that the last info saved in setup was not found.

I don't want to bother you guys but i was just wondering if anyone might know what the heck is going on.

Thanks for any replys.

Why don't you try re-installing Win95.

Thanks so much for your reply. I would do that if i had any of the disks, but I don't. It was already installed when i got the computer, thats a big dilema.

since you say its an older computer, go into your bios and see if it recognizes your harddrive.

See if this will help you. No Save (http://members.aol.com/don5408/uaskb/diskcopy.html)

Also boot to DOS and type in at the c prompt dir/p and see if windows setup is on the HD

If you are losing the BIOS settings every time you turn the PC off that could be an indication of a dead battery. I would check that first. The other message, "no operating system found", can be caused by a disk drive going bad.
