KDE 3.5 problems

I recently downloaded kde 3.5 and it looks good but I have one annoying problem that may keep me from using it. When I minimize or maximize an application the computer locks up for several seconds. It wont let me do anything including move the mouse. It only lasts a few seconds but is still annoying.

I also have fluxbox, gnome 2.12, and pekwm running on this system and this isnt a problem in any of them. Does anybody know what might be causing this or how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Joe

Definitely sounds like a bug in kde. Check through the release notes of 3.5, see if anything like what happened on your system was mentioned. It could also be a qt problem, was qt upgraded when you upgraded kde?

Well I was about to post back that the problem had fixed itself but now it appears it has not. I logged out of kde last night and relogged in today and everything worked fine. But after logging out again and relogging in the problem has returned.

This was the first version of kde that I installed on this box so I am not sure if qt was upgraded or if it was just downloaded when I downloaded kde 3.5. I will check the release notes like you said and see if anybody else is experiancing this.

Ah, if this is the first version of kde you have installed, then it probably is not qt (as qt was most likely not installed prior to kde). How much memory does the system have, and what kind of processor are you running it on?

The memory also crossed my mind as part of the problem because I only have 256mb of RAM and I know kde is quite resource heavy, but I figured 256 was still capable. I searched there site but didnt see any system requirements.
The processor is a Pentium 3 1GHz.

Ok, I would say its nothing to worry about then. I have a P4 2.116GHz processor with 512MB ram here and kde can be a bit slow on that at times. So I would imagine it would be even slower on a P3.

Oh well. I dont use kde much anyways. Just wanted to check it out. I just recently started messing around with afterstep and hopefully will get around to playing with FVWM soon anyways.

On a side note I am posting this from kde and everything seems to be working fine so far, I havent been in it for long though. Hopefully it keeps performing correctly but who know. Thanks Kage.
