Need help from AOL users

I'm trying to fix a problem that several of the AOL users on my site experience. However, these users don't know anything about computers or how they work past turning them on and clicking on the AOL icon.

I think their problem is related to the length of time they have for their DHCP lease. Is there any AOL user out there that can do an ipconfig and let me know how long the standard AOL IP lease is for? By what I'm seeing in my logs, it looks like the lease is only for a couple hours.

Thanks,

Kathryn

Hello, I try to be kind when it comes to AOL, but I'm going to tell you now that AOL is about the worste internet service you can get.

You can help you AOL visitors by letting them know that AOL is one of the crappiest servers and such.

If you would like a set of links go here and get some of the links from that site. They are informational and have everything you need to know about AOL.

If you are not interested in what the page has to say, your lost...

I try to help AOL users worldwide. I suggest everyone pitch in.

here is a thread in this forum for more info... :thumb:

WAIT A MINUTE???!!!

How do you know that people are having trouble with your site unless you know someone with AOL? Why don't you ask them? Or are they computer litterate?

(Hey if they have AOL, there is about 70% chance they are...!)

I'd like to distance myself and CTH from the above post, Tara, you're entitled to your own opinion of course but can I suggest you read up on the CTH Terms of Service which state that:

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this BB to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise violative of any law.
I'm no lawyer but I would suggest you're perhaps treading a fine line here, close to libelling AOL

Well Kathryn clearly stated tara that they barely know how to turn the PC on and log into AOL, so they obviously are going to be of no use to her in her quest.

Kathryn,
I in part agree that AOL is not the best browser to use. Their trimmed down IE isn't very reliable, so until you get this straightened out, I'd suggest you put a disclaimer up for AOL users saying they should use IE or another browser outside of AOL after they have logged on. Now it didn't seem clear to me what the exact problem these users are having with your site. Knowing that might better help us to help you.

My understanding is that AOL assigns dynamic IP addresses on a per-session basis at logon. Although the lease may expire if you're still logged in you'll still have all TCP/IP facilities.

Really? Not in the UK version of AOL... you're only logged off if your connection is idle.
