I can work on problems on computers pretty well, just don't really remember Win 95 that well.
Computer #1 It says 98304 KB OK, then it stops. If you let it sit there long enough it will say The followng configuration options were automatically updated: Disk 1 Type:65 If you are running Unix, you need to configure your system using the compaq User Diagnostics diskette. What I did: I went on the net and downloaded the disk on a floopy, however did not work. Any Idea's? Computer #2 No operating System keeps comming up. What I am going to do: I have 6 disks that have 3.1 OS on it. Will that install, and then I can upgrade to Windows 95? Also I have a Win 95 Companion CD that won't work right? Thanks, ~Ryan~ |

Welcome to CTH rwami18 and azicit. azicit, you should start a new thread for your situation.

Boot from a startup diskette that can operate your cd-rom. The prompt should say A:\> Create a folder\directory on your hard drive named win95 by typing md c:\win95 Then press enter. Copy those 6 downloaded files into c:\win95 There's a folder\directory on the Companion disk named win95. Copy it's contents into c:\win95 . If your cd-rom drive is labeled D:\ then the command to do that should look something like this: copy D:\win95\*.* c:\win95 Then press enter. The next thing is to get the setup program running. Type c:\ then enter. Type cd c:\win95 then enter. Type setup then enter. This should get Windows 95 installing. As far as Computer #1, after you get "The followng configuration options were automatically updated: Disk 1 Type:65 If you are running Unix, you need to configure your system using the compaq User Diagnostics diskette. What did you do\choose? Save changes? Ignore changes?

FDISK Problems
I tried above info got invalid drive specification for commands. (I got another hard drive not new but better, other one kept clicking)
I gave up on one of the computers. On the other one I have been trying all day. I almost had windows installed an this came up.:-( It says Message SU0013 Setup cannot create files on your startup drive and cannot setup Windows 95. If you have HPF5 or NTFS, you must create MS-Dos boot partition. What I did: Tried to find the program fdisk. bootdisk.com? Don't know what is the best one. Where do I get a good fdisk version? When I run it says no fixed disks present. I have done research on it and it says to run fdisk type "fdisk" then Select Yes to enable large disk support. Then when that is done type format c:/s. When I am done format then I install Win 95. Is that correct? Thanks for the help. Last edited by rwami18; December 7th, 2005 at 02:06 AM. |

Compaq Deskpro 2000
VGA/VBE BIOS verion 1.9 (Can't get into BIOS, b/c it doesn't bootup far enough for the blinker to go to other side) Any Idea's? I'm thinking that the BIOS isn't seeing the Hard drive. Thanks, ~Ryan~ P.s. Been working almost 16 hours straight on this. Have the week off, n would like to get going on other things. Any help would be GREAT. |

Maybe you need a new CMOS battery.
I believe the 95 and 98 bootdisks are the same fdisk-wise. Choose a 98 since it's more likely to operate your cd-rom. http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm

Ok, so I made the newest fdisk. When I boot the computer and command for the c: drive. It doesn't find the C: drive. I think the BIOS is messed up or something. I can't get into the BIOS b/c it doesn't boot up far enough for me to push F10. So what do I do now?
Thanks, ~Ryan~ |

I just wanted to say, I fixed all problems.
How I did it: First I went to my manufactor of my hard drive (Western Digital) I downloaded the overlay.exe program. Put it in the A:/. Then after it did what it need, I then was able to run the fdisk, and format the drive. Then install Windows 95. Thanks everyone. ~Ryan~ I don't know that much about computers, and I was able to do it. So it's not that hard. Just follow the instructions at support.microsoft.com/kb/q255867/ |

Good job.
I was trying to wrap my brain around how you could get as far in the setup as you did then get a no fixed disk in post 4. I didn't think you'd get that far into installation if you needed a setup\installation program from the manufacturer for your hard drive. Are you feeling like trying that other computer? After you get "The followng configuration options were automatically updated: Disk 1 Type:65 If you are running Unix, you need to configure your system using the compaq User Diagnostics diskette." What did you do\choose? Save changes? Ignore changes? What model is it?
