I have a Motorola SM56 PCI modem. I recently reformatted my HD & reinstalled all of my programs. I downloaded drivers from the Motorola driver site prior to the reformat, but I cannot get the modem to work with any of the drivers. I also found out that Motorola is no longer in the modem business. I am trying to determine exactly what type of modem I have. There is nothing on the modem which gives me that information, other than serial numbers, as follows: ENF656-PCIG-MOPR and 01501169707. The numbers on the Motorola chip are (as best as I can read them): 62802-51 020009 E2448-000. With this information, can anyone provide information as to the exact type of modem (data/fax, data/fax/voice, PCI, PCI2, hardware or software, and possibly what I may be doing incorrectly. Thanks.

I ran a search at Google on that serial number and got some hits...including driver downloads. I suggest you hit the google search link above and type in:

ENF656-PCIG-MOPR

Check some of the hits and see if anything applies or rings a bell or gives you some direction on the manufacturer. Many times the chip maker is not the Modem manufacturer. In this case, though, it looks to be:

Motorola 56K V.90 PCI Modem

Are these the drivers you've tried ?

Just as a FYI I suggest you look into buying a good external modem. The SM56 is notorious for poor connection speeds. It is after all a winmodem.
