IE 6 keeps hanging/freezing on me !

Hi

I keep finding internet explorer (IE6) keeps freezing or 'hanging' after browsing for any period of time; the only way to get out is to do cntrl-alt-del and click on the task manager to end the task etc. Then you get a window pop up saying 'you chose to close the unresponsive program,internet excplorer.exe' I am using broadband (2.2Mbps)via BT broadband basic, using WinXP SP2 etc. Would addition RAM help prevent this reoccurring or can i adjust any settings ? Must admit has never done this since loading WinXP
SP2 ! I am using Mcafee internet security centre.
