Pop-up Problems

Hi @ll,

Having a problem with the Internet. I cant open any pages that open in a new window. If I click on the links then nothing at all happens. I dont have any popup blocker software and my antivirus scan came back negative. On some pages the error "Could not load a dll properly" is shown when I click on the exclamation mark in the Taskbar below left.

Anyone got any ideas...thanks in advance for the help

Have you tested with a different browser?

Try http://windowsxp.mvps.org/IEFIX.htm

Am using Windows 2000, not XP...will this make a difference?
Should point out that this occurred suddenly and I have never had this problem before

Try Maxthon as an IE alternative and Firefox as a non-IE alternative.

Which from these two browsers works the best. Do you notice a differnce in terms of performance and familiarity with IE.
What do you mean by IE alternative and non IE alternative?

Internet Explorer is pretty much built into Windows.

There are IE clones that use the same basic code as IE to run, but they have a different interface, look & feel and features, but essentially they use the same settings as IE.

Maxthon, Avant and others are IE clones. They use the same IE code to run, but have different interfaces and features.

Mozilla, Firefox, Opera, Netscape (all very similar at base level) are completely seperate to Internet Explorer and Windows.

Usually if your IE problem is to do with Windows or IE its self then a completely seperate browser such as Firefox will still work.

It is a good test to see where the problem lies.

If neither browser works then it could be a Firewall or deeper connection problem.

Worked!

Ok, I installed Firefox and it seems to work fine.
Can I live safely with having IE and Firefox installed? Are there any negative aspects to Firefox / tips for use?

Thanks once again

There are couple of stickies in this forum for Firefox.

You can use them side by side.

You may want to post a HiJackThis log in the CyberSafety forum to look into your IE problem.
