Unhappy Cannot install IE 6

i had IE 6.0 or 6.1 but i reinstalled my windows(Millenium)so it installed again IE 5
When im downloading IE 6 and when it starts to installs says that the configuration program didnt installed all components. Says to close all other programas or reboot(ive done the 2, same thing)
I also notice when its intalling, it jumps from the 5% to 94% (im noob yes) and says that i said.

Howdy:

Open your temp and temp internet folders and delete everything in them.. Reboot and try the download and install once more..

Where are you getting IE6 from??

Have you tried disabling your net connection and av program prior to installing??

Have you installed all the other Critical Update and HotFixes first??

Check the add/remove programs area.. IE6 should be there.. Uninstall it and you should revert back to your old IE version..

Again, cleanup the temp and temp internet folders ..

Try the install again..

That's what I needed to know..

Now, when you go to the Updates page again, make sure ONLY the IE6 update is checked.. Then, when you go to download and install it, on the options page you should get, make sure only IE6 is checked.. You can update OE and all the rest after..

Okay.. after a little help from some of the other mods here, try this..

Go to the following url..

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/t...s%2fTop10.mspx

Now, SAVE the download to your harddrive, do NOT use the open method..

Once the download is finished, boot into Safe Mode.. Now try installing!!

One more suggestion to try..Thanks to Degsy!!

Go to Start > Run, and type Regedit.

Drill down to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer.

Doubleclick the 'version' value in the right pane in order to bring up the Edit box, and edit it to read 5.50.4807.2300

IE Setup now thinks it is running IE 5.5 SP2, and you'll be able to run IE setup and either reinstall IE in its entirety, or (and I haven't tried this personally, but it ought to work as well) select "Install Minimal or Customize Your Browser", and select Outlook Express."
