to remove linux
hi!
I've 2 partitions with winXP installed on the C drive. I installed Red Hat Linux9 on the D drive, but not successfully. I then installed Red Hat Linux8 (it asked me only 2 CDs so 'perhaps' i was again unsuccessful in installing it.) Logging in winXP I deleted D drive and formatted it, restarted the computer but a black screen appeared with grub. Now I want to uninstall linux keeping winXP intact. I don't know linux. if i run wins xp in the recovery console will i lose any data It would be great if you would explain the solution in layman's words. Please help me! |

Remove Linux
Hi there and Welcome to CTH
Boot to your Windows XP CD and select the first Repair option. This will put you into the Recovery Console. You will need the Administrators password. Run FixMBR. This will get rid of the Linux boot loader. Reboot to Windows then you can delete the Linux partition(s) from Start>Settings>Control Panel>Computer Management > Disk Management. You can then recreate FAT32/NTFS partitions and reformat them. The Linux partitions will show up as Unknown. You will not lose any data. cheers!
