Hi Huskabone, please follow these steps :

1. Click Start, and then click Run.

2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK.

3. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan

4. On the File menu, click Export.

5. In the File Name box, type exported rasman key, and then click Save.

6. In the RasMan key, locate and then click the ObjectName string value.
If this value is not set to LocalSystem, follow these steps:
(a.) On the Edit menu, click Modify.
(b.) In the Value data box, type LocalSystem, and then click OK.

7. Locate and then double-click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan\PPP\EAP\25

8. On the Edit menu, click Delete.

9. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the selected registry key.

10. Repeat steps 7 to 9 to delete the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\RasMan\PPP\EAP\26

11. Quit registry editor, and then restart your computer.

This should resolve your issue. Please notify me.Goodluck !

Regards,

Kzhitij

Note: Its 'Services' and not 'Servic es'.Tried to edit the space in between the alphabets but my patience cant take it anymore.

Howdy:

Did you install the driver for your ethernet card??

Check in Device Manager and see if there is anything with a yellow or red mark beside it..

Hello Huskabone,

Since you have a Dell computer, go to SYSTEM SETUP or BIOS by tapping the F2 key or Delete key on the blue Dell logo on startup.Go down to the 'Integrated Devices(Legacy Select)', using the down arrow key on your keboard.Hit ENTER on this option and check for Integrated NIC.See whether its turned 'ON' or 'OFF'.If its OFF then please select it and hit ENTER.Select 'ON' and hit ENTER.Hit ESC key twice and select the option 'SAVE CHANGES AND EXIT' and hit ENTER again.Your computer will reboot.Check if you get a 'Found New Hardware Wizard' window on desktop.Reload your drivers.

Can you tell whether this computer was on a Network when you started the format of Windows ? What were the devices connected to your computer other than the monitor, keyboard and mouse ? Was the network cable connected when you formatted your computer ? Have you installed any applications after the format ?

Please check for 'ContextPlus'(without quotes) in Add/Remove Programs under Control Panel. If you have installed this application or you find it listed in there, then please go ahead and remove it.Restart the computer and your issue should get resolved.

I would also like to know if you did the reinstallation of Windows yourself or with the help of a Dell technician.

Please do let me know if this step helped you.Sorry for the late reply.

Goodluck !

Kzhitij

I feel there might be a bit of confusion about what is going on

-I installed windows XP
-When i go to Start>Control Panel>Network Connections
-there is no icon for me to try to connect to the internet
-I called comcast (ISP) and they said that XP should auto configure my network settings. So this is something with Dell I believe.

I cant get online with the other computer to execute that file???

In order to have a network connection available, you have to have something installed to make the connection: an Ethernet card..

I repeat.. is there one installed?? Did you install the drivers for it??

Is there anything in Device Manager with a yellow or red mark beside it??

There is NO need to do anything with your Registry at this point and probably ever.. nor is there any need to download any FIX of any sort at the momewnt!!

You don't need to get online for the drivers.. they should be on your Dell cd..

Again.. Is there ANYTHING in Device Manager with a red or yellow mark beside it??

Hey Huskabone,

As rightly said by Mr.Murray, you dont need to run aFIX or tweak your registry but you need to install the drivers. Its mandatory. Now please follow these steps carefully. You may have received CDs from DELL.Please look for Dell Dimension Resource CD (Drivers & Utilities-Device Drivers,Diagnostic.....) this one.

(1.)Insert this CD in the CD-ROM drive.

(2.)You will get a screen that would say that 'Resource CD will begin the installation', press OK on this window.

(3.)Then click NEXT and it will Install the CD.Click finish when its done.

(4.)Now you will see a screen that says 'Welcome Dell System Owner'.Click NEXT on this.

(5.)Now you select DRIVERS from the dropdown menu under TOPIC.

(6.)You'll see the list of all the drivers. And you will now have to install the drivers in the CVAN sequence. That is Chipset,Video,Audio and Network(CVAN).

You can also go to http://www.support.dell.com and click on HOME AND HOME OFFICE under CONSUMER.
On the next page, you can enter your Service Tag under SELECT A PRODUCT and then select REINSTALL GUIDE under SELECT A TOOL. Now click on GO.
It will show you the steps on how to install the drivers step by step.PLEASE HAVE THE DETAILS OF YOUR DELL COMPUTER'S HARDWARE CONFIGURATION with you or simply install the drivers which have a tick mark against them. But install only your CHIPSET,VIDEO,AUDIO and NETWORK(CVAN).

I will be there for any further assistance you require. Thanks again.

Regards,

Kzhitij
