no hotmail, chatrooms, etc.

Have Windows 98, IE 5. I replaced my power supply recently & since cannot access hotmail, enter any chatrooms or get some graphics. hotmail won't accept sign-in & chatrooms have javascript error. Active X, java, plug-ins are enabled. Tried downloading JVM. Nothing seems to work. help!

Hi berta, welcome

I can tell you for sure that the replacement PSU will not have broken your web access. Try updating to IE6 and the Java VM.

no luck

I've downloaded IE 10 times & still doesn't work. It seems to me that IE would be my problem, just can't seem to rectify it. I was upgrading IE when my power supply went out. IE will download but won't complete update systems settings once I restart my computer. It will only go part way & quit.

Ah, I get you now. Try to uninstall IE from the control panel in Add/remove then reinstall it from scratch.

I tried that, but IE is not there. Could it be because it won't complete download? What can I do now?

Hi berta75 - In Windows Explorer, have a look in C:\Windows for a folder called msdownload or similar. You will probably find the results of your incomplete installations there. Just delete anything that you find in that folder.

Where did you download MS Virtual Machine from? MS have taken the download off their site semingly until the legal wrangle with Sun is sorted out. Try another download from here. Once downloaded, doubleclick on it to install and reboot your PC when the installation is finished.

it doesn't get better! I did look in Windows Explorer & found nothing similar. But have learned that my pc is infected with prettypark virus. So I guess that explains alot. So far I haven't been able to remove, but still trying. Thanks so much for your help. If you have any as far as this worm is concerned, I'll welcome it!!!

wow pretty park is still going around. I got it a long time ago. Well by now it has sent itself to all the people in the address book (check the address book because outlook usually adds people in there for you) When i had it my browser worked fine, but it wasn't IE6 (because it was like 2 years ago)

cleaned up & running

I finally got a cleaner to work & got IE6 reinstalled about 5 this morning. Thanks for the help. The cleaner said I hadn't sent the bug to anyone. I seldom use OE, so maybe I didn't have any addresses there, but thankful for whatever reason. Thanks again.

I'm pleased that you managed to clean your PC berta75. Did the symantec fix not work for you? If not, could you tell us which cleaner you used. It might help someone else.

no, symantec didn't work & a couple more didn't, but could be because of virus problems, don't know. What I got to work was the PrettyParkCleaner from getvirushelp.com. They ask for a $1 donation & will probably send it. It was well worth $1.
