i recently began attending college. my dorm has a t1 modem, and it downloads programs and internet sites quickly, however, when i am downloading mp3s or pictures, my download takes hours. why would this happen on a t1? could anyone help? thanks!

hi Rissa
there are a number of reasons for this but most likely it's because the server is slow. i've read in movie forums where people with dsl and cable modems were only able to download at 10 to 50 kps. peer to peer programs like kaaza , edonkey , and winmx can also be very slow because they depend on the speed of the other computer. also the time of day can effect the speed because of the number of people downloading at the same time. if you can find a different site for the download it might help. you could also try a download manager like net vampire or getright. be thankful for your T1 connection cause that same download would take me DAYS not hours on my 56k modem.

when i mentioned my downloads were slow, i meant they take hours - much slower than my old 56k. the average is usally .2kps. maybe they will work better on those other programs you mentioned - ill have to try them. thanks for the help.
