My PC getting hanged with Redhat

I am new to Linux. Getting help from this forum, I was at last able to duel boot with GRUB. With WinXP I did installed R.H Enterprise Linux-WS, 2.4.21-4 EL (4 CDs). My WinXP working OK, when I learn Redhat through all its drop down icons in toolbar it fine. But Moment I try to write a letter or any other open office, my PC, key board, Mouse getting hang.

My PC: P4-2.93, 256RAM, 40GB HDD, 915GV MB

During booting Redhat I see "Minimum 256MB RAM Memory required, 242MB Ram available"

Am I useing right version? What is Desktop version -4 CD- also I have with me.

Pl. help

Well the problem could be that the minimum required ram is 256 and it is only seeing 242mb. Red Hat I believe still uses the gnome desktop, which is a fairly large desktop environment that uses quite a bit of resources. Open office is also a very large program. Perhaps when the two are running together it just taxes the resources to much and causes it to hang.

You could try to install a couple things that use less resources such as IceWM for a desktop and maybe abiword to right letters and such.

Hopes this helps,
Joe
