Ever use Squid?

I was tinkering with my network and use ldap for windows auth and was wondering if anyone here uses squid on a mixed network enviroment?

I've tinkered with it a little bit, but haven't gotten into some of its more advanced uses.

For its basic use would you say its worth tinkering with or would you just pass on it in order to play with something more fun?
