So today I was trying to clean up my computer.. I ran disk cleanup, disk defrag, spy doctor, and deleted some old games and music i don't use anymore. Then I reboot and try to log on to AIM. All of a sudden my wireless connection is "limited or no connectivity". So I am confused by this so I run CMD and do ipconfig /all and notice that the IP address my computer is getting does not match up with what is should be getting, same with the subnet mask and so on. So I switch to static IP and enter in the correct informatin and that doesn't work either. So now I am confused, I don't understand what to do or how to fix it, any ideas?
A little more.. so I do ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew and it says "An error occurred while renewing interface Wirless Network Connection: The requested service provider could not be loaded or initialized" What does this mean and how do i fix it? My other computer with a cable connection it working fine so I am very confused, any help wouldb e greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Have you checked to see that the pc has a valid wireless connection running?
Also check your router is connected and logged on to your isp.

it has been confirmed that it is something to do with my laptop.... my friend came over and after setting up his wireless connection it worked just fine.
I am not sure what you mean about a valid wireless connection running ... it has been working for months and just stopped working yesterday... i am afraid i might have deleted something important or did something to throw off the wireless settings... but i don't think i deleted anything that wasn't a game

What I meant was make sure you have a wireless connection that is enabled in your connection settings tab.
Start>connect to>show all connections>Lan or High Speed connections

oh ... yes I do.
So I decided to connect my computer to the router with a cable connection to see if that would help me gain access to the internet but the same problem occured. I still get a limited or no connectivity statement and don't know how to fix... and the IP address is still really confusing to me... i don't understand where it is getting the address from... any ideas on how to fix this?

can you get the config of the router up when you cable connect to it?
and can you stick the results of an ipconfig /all up here?

When you get the 169. addresses, it proves your network cards are talking internally (i.e. not getting out past the NIC or wireless port).
Sounds like you need to put the drivers back in for both the wireless card and your NIC, then go through the wireless setup again.
Personally, I prefer not to use the setup utilities that come on the wi-fi card's cd, but use the add network connection wizard from the o/s.
What does device manager have to say about the two connections?
(might be a while responding, I'm putting some laminate flooring down :curse: )

It says that they are both working fine ... which obviously isn't true haha.
Since they are internal cards in the laptop is there a way I can do uninstall in the device manager and then just add them again somehow? Will this get the job done?
Good thing about not using the CD since I don't know where they are or if I have them. This is a laptop i was forced to get for college and since I graduated they don't service it anymore.
Good luck with the laminate flooring thats never any fun, I am putting tiles up on a bathroom wall :dizzy: By the way Thanks for all your help.

You could remove them and do a "discover devices" or whatever it's called. Better be sure you've got up to date drivers first. Go to the downloads page on the manufacturers website.
Packed in the flooring for the night, cant be doing with jigsawing my fingers off, A&E will be full of drunks about this time of night.
