Bellsouth DSL + Linksys Wireless G router=confusion

Alright here goes, my mom is running on bellsouth fastaccess DSL isp, and im trying to hook her up with the wireless network at her house. the modem is a Westell Wirespeed and the router is the linksys wireless-g broadband router with speedbooster (WRT54GS) i followed their setup instructons that come on the disk multiple times, changing variables as i went along. i called both companies asking the same question to no avail. i have her ppoe login and password, and am able to set it on the router and change the modems settings to accept it, but it wont connect, ill get to the end of the setup wizard and it will tell me that it cant connect to the internet. any suggestions will be appreciated, thx in advance

Have you been able to connect without the router (i.e. connect a computer directly to the modem)?

yes, ive been able to connect to the cpu with only the modem, and now i know why

i kept track, i called bellsouth 7 times about their modem and my problem networking it. they refused to tell me that you must purchase a $75 self installation kit, $50 cards for each computer, adn an additional $5/Mo on the bill. They all told me it was completely possible to connec the modem to this router without anytihng else. i called them back and told them they can piss up a crooked rope im calling adelphia. thanks for your help anyways, u guys helped more than they did, and its their job.

Technically, if your router supports the PPPoA or PPPoE standards, they should never know that you used it. Is your ISP using special software to connect?

Assuming everything if good with your router, there isn't a whole lot else you can do. It is entirely possible that bellsouth is using a custom protocol to block the use of routers (which a lot of ISPs are starting to do). Maybe one of the other techs here can think of something else.

Try the following: Hold the reset button in the back of the route in for thirty seconds (reset it to factory defaults) then unplug it while holding hte button down. Unplug the westell modem and wait one minute. Turn off the computer. and wait one minute. Boot up the computer. Repower the modem and wait until the lights come on and ensure you can connect to the internet. Now connect the router as per insturction. They should "find each other" IF it doesnt work it's my guess the IP address of the modem and router are too close. You'll have to get another IP address assigned to the router. (Had a similat problem)
